Quality award “Wings 2011” for the EU Lifelong Learning Programme projects

On December 9 (2011) during a special ceremony the minister of education and science Mr Roberts Ķīlis and the director of State Education Development Agency (VIAA) Ms Dita Traidās presented the EU Lifelong Learning Programme quality award “Wings 2011” to the most successful projects that have been implemented in previous years.

The implementers and participants of EU Lifelong Learning Programme projects (2007-2009) from across Latvia were invited to take part in this quality award contest. Vocational education establishments participated in the following nominations: Leonardo da Vinci partnership 2008, Leonardo da Vinci transfer of innovation 2008-2009, as well as Leonardo da Vinci mobility 2007-2009.

The submitted projects covered diverse topics, such as the use of modern technologies in teaching/learning, promoting environmental awareness, development of professional competences.

This was the fourth national quality award project contest. The agency that supervises the implementation of LLL Programme has arranged the contest “Wings” every two or three years since 2004. Yet for the first time this year in the contest not only Leonardo da Vinci projects participated, but also the projects implemented through Comenius, Erasmus and Grundtvig Programmes. Similar project quality competitions are organised almost in all LLL Programme countries.

Quality award winners in 2011 are as follows:

  • Nomination “Comenius partnership 2008” – Ventspils Centre Elementary School for the project “The birds in my city”;
  • Nomination “Grundtvig workshop 2009” – Eko Media Ltd for the project “Legends of autumn”;
  • Nomination “Leonardo da Vinci transfer of innovation 2008 and 2009” – Lauku ceļotājs Ltd (Baltic Country Holidays) for the project “Transfer of quality ensurance tools for European rural tourism sector”;
  • Nomination “Erasmus intensive programme 2007-2009” – Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences for the project “Environment Awareness Communications Interpretation”
  • Nomination “Leonardo da Vinci mobility 2007” – Scientific Library of Riga Technical University for the project “Improvement of information literacy”;
  • Nomination “Leonardo da Vinci mobility 2008” – ski and recreation park “Ozolkalns” for the project “Acquisition of necessary professional skills for technical specialists”
  • Nomination “Leonardo da Vinci mobility 2009” – Riga Style and Fashion Vocational Secondary School for the project “Promoting professional knowledge and skills about style and fashion”.
