Dual education pilot project modules have started
To bring vocational education closer to labour market needs, starting from September 1, 2013 five vocational education schools in Latvia have started to implement elements of dual education system that provides flexible curriculum regarding specifics of relevant profession.
It means that theoretical studies will be combined with professional training at a company. The projects are being implemented by such vocational education schools as Riga State Technical school, Jelgava Technical school, Ogre Technical school, and Valmiera vocational secondary school. The Dual education model foresees to join theoretical studies and real work enjoinment by linking it to professional training. It will help better to acquire skills and competences that are needed at labour market, as well as theoretical knowledge. Young people, who participate in pilot projects, while studying at one of the above mentioned technical schools, will be able to learn chosen profession during training at particular company. At the same time the company will be able to train employees according to the company needs, since the skills of the potential employee will be tested.
