The professional qualifications levels referenced to the levels of Latvian Qualifications Framework
On April 23, 2015 Parliament of the Republic of Latvia (Saeima) adopted amendments to the Vocational Education Law. Several of the adopted amendments concern correspondence of professional qualifications and their levels to the Latvian Qualifications Framework (referenced to the EQF in 2011).
According to the amendments, five professional qualifications levels used in the Latvian vocational education system are referred to the Latvian Qualifications Framework levels. Furthermore, vocational education programmes should include reference to the Latvian Qualifications Framework level. These regulations will enter into force simultaneously with the amendments in the Education Law, in which Latvian Qualifications Framework and its level descriptors will be defined.
The documents certifying vocational education and vocational qualification (diplomas, certificates), in addition, should indicate the level of Latvian Qualifications Framework. This regulation will enter into force on 1 January 2017.
These Amendments to the Vocational Education Law enter into force on May 15, 2015.
