National competition for young professionals “SkillsLatvia 2018” has concluded
On 25-26 April 2018 in Kipsala Exhibition Center mastery competition for young professionals “SkillsLatvia 2018” was held by the State Education Development Agency (SEDA). During the competition there were announced 60 winners in 20 different professional skill contests, two of them took place in Jelgava – a city in the central part of Latvia.
Young professionals participated in various skill competitions such as mobile robotics and electronics, electrical installations, computer network administration, graphic design, window design and decoration, costume design, hairdressing, tiling, cooking, engineering communications and other competitions. In total 130 students and graduates were competing from 31 vocational education institutions; 26 participants won medals.
Vocational education institutions whose representatives won the most medals:
1. Riga Art and Media School – 3 gold and 2 bronze medals;
2. Ogre Technical School – 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals;
3. Riga Technical College – 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.
The competition “SkillsLatvia” was organized for the second year. This competition is honoring skills of young professionals, fostering the cooperation between vocational schools, as well as strengthening the link between vocational education and employers.
The competition is organized within the framework of the ESF project “Career Support in General and Vocational Education Institutions”.
