Latvia achieved high success in WorldSkills 2019 competition
In the world’s largest and most prestigious contest for young professionals WorldSkills 2019, the Latvian team won three medals for excellence. The competition concluded on 27 August 2019 in Kazan, Russia.
Latvian team members received the following medals for excellence:
- 4th place for Luīze Mihailova (Vocational Education Competence Centre “Liepaja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design”) in shop window decoration;
- 6th place for Madara Minina (Riga Tourism and Creative Industry Technical School) in restaurant services;
- 18th place for Nils Ģēvele (Malpils Vocational Secondary School) in cooking.
In order for contestants to receive medal of excellence they must obtain 700 out of 799 points. Out of 63 member states, Latvia was ranked 23rd overall in points.
More than 1300 young professionals from 63 countries competing in 56 skills competitions participated in WorldSkills 2019 competition.
WorldSkills competition for young professionals takes place every second year. Currently, organisation “WorldSkills International” has 82 member states from around the world. Each member state is represented by only one state delegated body, and in Latvia it is the State Education Development Agency (SEDA).
