17th meeting of the Baltic education ministers and the international coordination group has concluded
On June 1-3, 2011 the 17th meeting of the Baltic education ministers and the international coordination group took place in Ventspils (western part of Latvia). During the event, the members of three working groups discussed the issues concerning vocational and general education, higher education and international cooperation.
The working group on general and vocational education emphasized the need to continue the cooperation by introducing the European Union recommendations and tools:
- Developing the National Qualifications Framework and referencing it to the European Qualifications Framework, establishing a credit point system;
- Recognition of competences acquired outside the formal education system;
- Strengthening the social dialogue.
To promote the quality of knowledge and raise the prestige of the Baltic countries’ education systems internationally, in the meeting the issue regarding the establishment of a new Baltic-level vocational education students’ skill competition, as well as other possible forms of cooperation in education and science were also discussed.
