7208 people have applied for adult education’s second round
EU fund project for adult education “Improvement of the professional competence of the employed persons” (1.01.2017-31.12.2022) implemented by State Education Development Agency in cooperation with municipalities of Latvia, education institutions and the State Employment Agency has received 7565 applications for learning in 63 vocational education institutions.
Agreement was reached on the qualifications demanded by labour market
In March 2018 educators and employers reached an agreement on the professional qualifications that are demanded in the labour market.
The acquisition of a profession within the framework of the Youth Guarantee will continue until 2023
On August 2017, in order to continue providing the opportunity for young people during one or one and a half year to acquire the occupation demanded in the labor market, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the solution proposed in the informative statement by the Ministry of Education and Science, thus promoting the competitiveness of these young people and their long-term involvement in the labor market. Vocational education will continue to implement measures to improve sectoral qualifications system
On 8 February 2017, a seminar was held in Ventspils for the leaders of the educational administrations of the cities and counties, as well as the directors of the vocational education institutions on the implementation of the ESF specific support projects and the planned activities in year 2017. Support measures to improve professional competences of employed persons will be implemented
The State Education Development Agency (SEDA) and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency have signed an agreement on implementation of a European Social Fund (ESF) project aimed at improving adult professional competence in order to increase the competitiveness of employees and promote the productivity growth. The regulations ensuring the conformity of vocational education with EQF requirements have been adopted
On 26 April 2016 the Cabinet of Ministers adopted regulations, which determine the procedures for implementing the specific objective „To ensure the conformity of vocational education with European qualifications framework” of the priority direction „Education, skills and lifelong learning” 8.5.2. of the operational programme “Growth and employment”.
ESF project on vocational education reform and quality closed
On 26 November, 2015 State Education Development Agency held a conference dedicated to the closure of European Social Fund (ESF) project “Development of a sectoral qualifications system and improvement of the efficiency and quality of vocational education and training”. During the project, which lasted for five years, a solid foundation was established for further development of vocational education, quality and prestige.
In terms of an ESF project, 14 sectoral descriptions and qualifications structures were elaborated (2012)
The State Education Development Agency that coordinates the ESF project “Development of sectoral qualifications system and increasing the efficiency and quality of vocational education” (01.12.2010-30.11.2013) has published sectoral descriptions and qualification structures in fourteen sectors elaborated within the project.
The Cabinet of Ministers supported additional investment in vocational education (8.05.2012)
On May 8 (2012), the Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science to invest additional LVL 62 million from the EU funds in vocational education and science. This is the most significant and purposeful investment in the development of Latvian vocational education.

The State Education Development Agency is a state institution under the direction of the Ministry of Education and Science and is responsible for education policy development and implementation in various areas.
