Latvia achieved high success in WorldSkills 2017 competition
WorldSkills 2017 competition is considered the most comprehensive event in the history of the competition’s existence. For the first time it was held in the Near East, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 14th to 19th of October. During the four days eight young people from Latvia presented their skills in the competition of 1300 participants.

Occupational standards will be approved by Tripartite Cooperation Sub-council of Vocational Education and Employment
On 14 March 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted amendments in Vocational Education Law, according to which National Tripartite Cooperation Council’s Tripartite Cooperation Sub-council of Vocational Education and Employment has the rights to approve occupational standards, requirements of the professional qualification (if occupational standard for the profession is not approved) and sectoral qualifications frameworks. Vocational education will continue to implement measures to improve sectoral qualifications system
On 8 February 2017, a seminar was held in Ventspils for the leaders of the educational administrations of the cities and counties, as well as the directors of the vocational education institutions on the implementation of the ESF specific support projects and the planned activities in year 2017. The participants were introduced to the content, objectives and key planned activities of the project “Improvement of sectoral qualifications system for the development and quality assurance of vocational education”. Latvian young professionals win 9 medals in the competition EuroSkills 2016

The annual skills competition “Chair 2012” (4.-9.06.2012) is concluded
The annual skills competition “Chair 2012” for the Latvian vocational education students in woodworking sector was held on 4-9 June in Riga (Latvia). This competition which was arranged by the National Centre for Education.
The Cabinet of Ministers supported additional investment in vocational education (8.05.2012)
On May 8 (2012), the Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science to invest additional LVL 62 million from the EU funds in vocational education and science. This is the most significant and purposeful investment in the development of Latvian vocational education.
Amendments to the Vocational Education Law were approved (19.04.2012)
On April 19 (2012), Saeima (the Parliament of Latvia) approved amendments to the Vocational Education Law that was initially approved in 1999. These amendments refer to the titles of vocational education establishments regarding education level and qualification they provide, i.e., vocational basic school, vocational school, vocational secondary school, technical school (tehnikums), and college.
