In Riga, discussions were held on promoting the development of young people’s skills in Europe

From June 5 – 8, 2019, the General Assembly of the WorldSkills Europe organisation took place for the first time in Riga with participation of 90 experts from 29 countries. Representatives discussed the development of vocational education and international professional mastery competitions. The event is organised by State Education Development Agency (SEDA) in cooperation with Ministry of Education and Science.

The General Assembly decides on the strategy and development of the organization, the inclusion of new skills and occupations in European mastery competitions, selects the organisers of future competitions, develops cooperation with European industry associations in defining skills standards, and the use of expertise of sectoral experts, accepts new countries in the organisation and discusses the European region’s positions in relation to WorldSkills International.

In 2017, Dita Traidās (director of SEDA) was elected president of WorldSkills Europe, but has been working for the organisation since 2014.

WorldSkills Europe aims to develop excellence in the field of professional skills and competences for young people and to raise public awareness of the role of youth skills and high-quality vocational education in Europe.
