Government supports the second round for modernising vocational education establishments (22.01.2013)

On 22 January 2013, the government approved the project of Cabinet Regulations “Regulations on implementing the second project selection round of the Action Programme “Infrastructure and Services” supplement 3.1.1.1. activity “Modernisation of education facilities and improvement of infrastructure for implementing vocational education programmes””, which was elaborated by the Ministry of Education and Science.

The total amount of funding allocated to this activity is around EUR 129.054 million, of which EUR 120.282 million is co-financed by the ERDF and EUR 8.784 million – by the state.

The support is expected to be received by 11 vocational education establishments:

  • Austrumlatgale Vocational Secondary School (Austrumlatgales Profesionālā vidusskola) – EUR 12 126 241;
  • Cesis Vocational Secondary School (Cēsu Profesionālā vidusskola) – EUR 3 276 771;
  • Daugavpils Vocational Secondary School of Builders (Daugavpils Celtnieku profesionālā vidusskola) – EUR 9 513 541;
  • Daugavpils State Technical School (Daugavpils Valsts tehnikums) – EUR 11 303 042;
  • Ogre State Technical School (Ogres Valsts tehnikums) – EUR 12 632 827;
  • Vocational Education Competence Centre “Liepaja State Technical School” (profesionālās izglītības kompetences centrs „Liepājas Valsts tehnikums”) – EUR 18 807 941;
  • Vocational Education Competence Centre “Rīga State Technical School” (profesionālās izglītības kompetences centrs „Rīgas Valsts tehnikums”) – EUR 9 566 741;
  • Jelgava State Technical School (Jelgavas Tehnikums) – EUR 15 524 113;
  • Smiltene Technical School – Vocational Secondary School (Smiltenes Valsts tehnikums – profesionālā vidusskola) – EUR 8 722 487;
  • Valmiera Vocational Secondary School (Valmieras Profesionālā vidusskola) – EUR 12 094 410;
  • Ventspils Technical School (Ventspils Tehnikums) – EUR 15 498 082.

An essential requirement for vocational schools to receive the funding is that vocational education establishment designs and harmonizes with the Ministry of Education and Science the strategy on investments and development. The document should impart information about the planned investments and the development of vocational education programme offer. The deadline for submitting project applications for the second round is 29 November 2013.

According to the regulations, the project applications should also include a statement of certified construction engineer regarding the planned dates when the construction works would be completed and buildings would be ready for occupation. In addition, starting date for construction works should be indicated. The planned deadlines should be stated prior the end of the project, i.e. 31 August 2015.
