On 30 May 2018 German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce vocational education award “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” was presented in National Library of Latvia.
The winners of “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” in category “The most active apprenticeship mentor at enterprise” were Mr Jānis Tenis (“ADS Baltic” Ltd, Liepaja), Mr Viktors Adelmanis (“Bucher Municipal” Ltd, Ventspils) and Mr Audris Lukaševičs (“HansaMatrix” Plc, Ogre). The vocational education prize “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” was presented for the third year within the framework of VETnet implemented by the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the “WE ARE LEARNING” prize is to attract wider public attention to an apprenticeship scheme (nationally “work-based learning”) as one of the ways to obtain a profession in Latvia; thus, contributing to the improvement of the image of vocational education. Furthermore, the implementation of apprenticeship should be continuously promoted, emphasizing the importance of the trainer’s skills, individual contribution and prestige.
Patrons for the vocational education award “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” are Minister of Economics Mr Arvils Ašeradens and Minister of Education and Science Mr Kārlis Šadurskis. These awards are given to the apprenticeship mentors at the enterprises. Candidates for the award are nominated by companies.
To determine the best among the applicants a jury commission was appointed which was represented by: Ministry of Education and Science (MoES), Ministry of Economics, Employers’ Confederation of Latvia, The Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia, German Embassy in Riga and prakse.lv. The jury visited the applicants at their work places and got acquainted with the specifics of the work and its organization.
