Reduces requirements of teaching knowledge for WBL tutors in companies

On 12 September 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted amendments to the procedure for organizing and implementing work based learning (WBL), which defines requirements of teaching knowledge for WBL tutors in companies.
Now they will be able to acquire teaching competences not only in the 72-hour learning programme for teachers, but also in the shorter 32-hour learning programme for WBL tutors.

The model for such a special learning programme for WBL tutors in companies has been developed in the Erasmus+ international project “Developing Apprenticeship: In-Company Trainer Training and Apprenticeship Promotion (WBL tutors training)”, partnered with the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia. The need to shorten and specify the teaicher’s programme for WBL tutors in companies is also confirmed by the experience of the previous Latvian WBL pilot-projects and the experience of the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce with the training of employees of several companies following the German model.

Amendments restrict application of the requirements for pedagogical competence to WBL tutors in companies until January 1, 2019. Until now, they have the right to run WBL even if the acquisition of pedagogical competence has just begun. Consequently, the amendments will encourage greater involvement of companies in WBL.
The amendments came into the force on 19 September 2017.
