1st place for Latvia in the 20th Vocational Schools’ Sports Games of the Baltic States
The 20th Vocational Schools’ Sports Games of the Baltic States were held from May 17-19 (2012) in the city of Tartu (Estonia). Latvia was represented by 70 vocational students, teachers and headmasters from 18 vocational education establishments. In total, the Latvian team won in the competition with an evident advantage; Lithuania gained 2nd place and Estonia – 3rd place.
Students and staff competed in such disciplines as basketball, volleyball and table tennis. While the headmasters took part in the competitions of darts, free basketball throws and table tennis. The Latvian headmasters displayed an excellent performance.
This year for the first time future web page designers from vocational schools representing all three Baltic States demonstrated their talent. The Latvian team consisting of future specialists from vocational education competence centres Rīga State Technical School (Rīgas Valsts tehnikums) and Riga Technical College (Rīgas Tehniskā koledža) won the 2nd place.
Vocational Schools’ Sports Games of the Baltic States take place every year in another Baltic country, for example, in 2011 the event was organized in Latvia. The next year the games will be held in Lithuania, but in 2014 the Sports Games will be arranged in Latvia again.
The Sports Games provide an opportunity for every participant to show their athletic progress, as well as help in popularizing vocational education and promote cooperation between the Baltic vocational education establishments, headmasters, teachers and students.
