Latvia – Lithuania cross border cooperation project on lifelong learning
Lifelong learning (LLL) is considered as one of the key factors for a sustainable development of human capital, which could be promoted through the development of a common approach how to face regional challenges in the field. Therefore, a bilateral project “5L – Enhance of Lifelong Learning Cross Border Capacity” (No. LLII–102) was initiated in January 2010 and concluded with the final conference on 3 June 2011. The abbreviation “5L” means “Lifelong Learning in Latvia and Lithuania”.
17th meeting of the Baltic education ministers and the international coordination group has concluded
On June 1-3, 2011 the 17th meeting of the Baltic education ministers and the international coordination group took place in Ventspils (western part of Latvia). During the event, the members of three working groups discussed the issues concerning vocational and general education, higher education and international cooperation.
The cooperation with Germany in developing vocational education
The Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) in collaboration with the German Embassy in Latvia, the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia and the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia has launched a mutual cooperation of both countries in vocational education by learning the German experience. In April 2011 several headmasters of vocational schools and specialists from MoES went to an experience exchange visit arranged by the Embassy of the German Federal Republic in Latvia. During this visit the participants visited vocational education centres, schools and enterprises of metal and construction industry in Schwerin and Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Latvian Self-Assessment Report on referencing the national qualifications to EQF has been published
The Self-Assessment Report “Referencing of the Latvian Education System to the EQF for Lifelong Learning and the QF/EHEA” focuses on the referencing process of the Latvian qualifications to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and to the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area (QF/EHEA).
Discussion of experts from the Baltic States on vocational education issues
On May 13, 2011, in the city of Ventspils (western part of Latvia) in terms of the ESF project “Promoting the Attractiveness of Initial Vocational Education” experts’ discussion called “The Attractiveness of vocational education – opportunities, challenges and solutions” was arranged. The participants of this discussion were the representatives from the Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian education ministries, sectoral associations, social partners’ organizations and vocational schools. The event was opened by Mr Rolands Broks, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia.
19th Vocational Schools’ Sports Games of the Baltic States in Latvia
On May 12, 2011 in the city of Ventspils (western part of Latvia) 19th Vocational Schools’ Sports Games of the Baltic States were opened with a festive procession accompanied by a brass band. The event involved more than 400 participants from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
International conference “EQF in Latvia” on April 27
On April 27, the Academic Information Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science arranged an international conference “The European Qualifications Framework in Latvia”, which was held in Riga, Latvia.
Most modern soldering learning laboratory in the Baltic States opened at the Riga Technical College
On February 17, a soldering learning laboratory was opened at the Riga Technical College in Riga, Latvia. This laboratory may be considered to be one of the most modern in the Baltic States. The laboratory was equipped in terms of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project “Modernization of the Riga Technical College premises and facilities for improving study programme quality”.
Referencing the Latvian education system to the European Qualifications Framework
On February 14 (2011), the Academic Information Centre as the National Coordination Point (for referencing the National Qualifications Framework to the European Qualifications Framework) arranges a conference “Referencing the Latvian education system to the European Qualifications Framework”, which will be held in Riga, Latvia.
Bologna process – the internationalization of higher education and recognition of formal learning
The State Education Development Agency and the Academic Information Centre arrange an international conference “Bologna process – the internationalization of higher education and recognition of formal learning” on November 8, 2010, in “Islande Hotel” (Ķīpsalas Street 20, Riga), from 10:30 to 15:30 o’clock. Participation in the conference is for free.
