Vocational education prize “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” was awarded
On 30 May 2018 German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce vocational education award “WE ARE LEARNING 2018” was presented in National Library of Latvia.
7208 people have applied for adult education’s second round
EU fund project for adult education “Improvement of the professional competence of the employed persons” (1.01.2017-31.12.2022) implemented by State Education Development Agency in cooperation with municipalities of Latvia, education institutions and the State Employment Agency has received 7565 applications for learning in 63 vocational education institutions.
National competition for young professionals “SkillsLatvia 2018” has concluded
On 25-26 April 2018 in Kipsala Exhibition Center mastery competition for young professionals “SkillsLatvia 2018” was held by the State Education Development Agency (SEDA). During the competition there were announced 60 winners in 20 different professional skill contests, two of them took place in Jelgava – a city in the central part of Latvia.
During Erasmus+ project representatives of businesses and vocational education schools supplemented their knowledge about implementation of work-based learning
The second cycle has begun for Erasmus+ KA3 project “Testing New Approaches to Training VET and Workplace Tutors for Work Based Learning (TTT4WBL)”, which is intended for work-based learning tutors in businesses and vocational education institutions.
Agreement was reached on the qualifications demanded by labour market
In March 2018 educators and employers reached an agreement on the professional qualifications that are demanded in the labour market.
Amendments approved to Cabinet of Ministers Regulations in terms of the modular vocational education
The amendments were made on 6 March 2018 changing the 2011 and 2014 regulations on unemployment reduction measures and raising the qualifications of the unemployed. The purpose of the amendments of Cabinet of Ministers Regulations is to increase the qualification and skills of the unemployed in line with labour market demand.
Latvia achieved high success in WorldSkills 2017 competition
WorldSkills 2017 competition is considered the most comprehensive event in the history of the competition’s existence. For the first time it was held in the Near East, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 14th to 19th of October. During the four days eight young people from Latvia presented their skills in the competition of 1300 participants.
Presented Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training Mobility Charters
On 28 September 2017, the State Education Development Agency (SEDA) has presented Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training (VET) Mobility Charters to five vocational education institutions which will allow them to apply for Erasmus+ mobility funding in simplified form in the future.
Vocational education standards include modules and learning outcomes
On 19 September 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted amendments to the regulation regarding the state vocational secondary education standard and the state vocational education standard introducing modules and learning outcomes.
The acquisition of a profession within the framework of the Youth Guarantee will continue until 2023
On August 2017, in order to continue providing the opportunity for young people during one or one and a half year to acquire the occupation demanded in the labor market, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the solution proposed in the informative statement by the Ministry of Education and Science, thus promoting the competitiveness of these young people and their long-term involvement in the labor market.
