VET Mobility Charters awarded

Integration of Adult Education of Latvia into European Adult Education Movement (EPALE)” where professionals and experts in adult education evaluated the situation in adult learning in Latvia and analysed the experience of other European countries in organizing adult education.

Latvian legislation strengthens the activity of Sectoral Expert Councils

EQAVET indicators and basic principles will be implemented in Latvian vocational education
From April 2016, the State Education Quality Service as the Latvian national coordinator of the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework for Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET) is implementing the Erasmus+ project “Indicators of European Quality Assurance Framework for Vocational Education and Continuing Vocational Education and Their Implementation”.

Approved EUR 6.5 million for further education of teachers in vocational education institutions
On 3 May 2016, the government approved “The implementing regulation of the operational programme “Growth and Employment”, the specific objective 8.5.3. “Ensuring effective management of vocational education institutions and the development of professional competence of its personnel”. The total planned funding is EUR 6.5 million, including EUR 5.5 million from the European Social Fund and almost EUR 1 million as national public co-financing.
Vocational schools will receive 104.7 million Euro for further modernization
On 29 April 2016, the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 249 “Regulations for implementing the specific objective of the operational programme “Growth and Employment” 8.1.3. ”Increase the number of modernized vocational education institutions”” entered into force that were elaborated by the Ministry of Education.
New procedures for accrediting education institutions and evaluating heads of education institutions
On 20 December 2016, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a new regulation “Procedure for accrediting education institutions, examination centres and other institutions, general and vocational education programmes specified by the Education Law, and for evaluating the professional activity of heads of secondary schools affiliated to state higher education institutions and heads of state and municipal education institutions” that henceforth regulates the accreditation of educational institutions and educational programmes, as well as the assessment procedures of the heads of educational institutions. Plan approved by the government for adult education 2016-2020
In the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on 3 May 2016 the Government approved the “Adult education management model implementation plan for 2016-2020”. The plan provides for the establishment of a unified and sustainable adult education system and is oriented to a transparent and harmonised system activity, taking into account regional needs, medium and long-term labour market forecasts. It will offer high quality education for adults, creating a coherent legislative framework and efficient resource (including financial) administration.
From 1st January 2017, documents certifying vocational education and vocational qualifications will include reference to the corresponding LQF level
On April 5, 2016 The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No.194 “Amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No.451 of June 21, 2005 “Procedures by which state-recognised documents certifying vocational education and vocational qualification and documents certifying acquisition of a part of an accredited vocational education programme are issued””.
