Annual skills competition event „Young Professional 2012”
During the international education opportunity exhibition „School 2012” (March 1-4), the National Centre for Education arranges the skills competition „Young Professional 2012” for the vocational education students of Latvia. The event will occur in Kipsala International Exhibition Centre located in Riga, Latvia. This year in 26 competitions 180 students from 50 vocational education establishments will participate.
Profession demonstrations and skills competitions will be held in 16 sectors: mechanics and mechatronics, metalworking, power industry, electronics and automation, transportation, construction, wood processing, chemical industry, textile industry and beauty services, business, business, business services, information and communication technology, printing, health and social care, as well as road construction.
The activities organized during this event provide an insight about occupations that may be acquired in vocational education establishments and about the latest technologies in the sectors. The event is arranged with the aim to:
- Promote understanding of significance of vocational education in the Latvian economy, and foster the development of vocational education through the cooperation between employers and vocational schools;
- Promote experience exchange between vocational education teachers;
- Popularise the occupations included the competition event;
- Provide an opportunity for the participants of competitions to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in their future occupations.
Furthermore, during the exhibition in terms of the ESF project “The improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical competences for vocational subject teachers and for supervisors of practical training” (agreement No. 2010/0043/1DP/1.2.1.1.2/09/IPIA/VIAA /001, 2010-2012) also professional improvement activities in the professional sectors for vocational education teachers will be held, as well as on March 2 the 3rd project conference “Vocational education teachers’ professional improvement – preparing for skills competitions” will occur.
